๐Ÿพ Your Puppy Guide: Everything You Need to Get Started

Congrats! Now that you've selected your puppy we wanted to make sure you know what's NEXT....

During the first 8 weeks, we focus on giving each puppy the very best start. We proudly follow the Badass Breeder (BAB) curriculum, which includes early neurological stimulation, sound desensitization, structured socialization, and confidence-building exercises.

Our goal is to raise emotionally resilient, well-rounded puppies who are ready to adjust smoothly to their new homes.

And because we know how exciting it is to watch your puppy grow, we send weekly updates, including photos and/or videos, so you can be part of the journey from the very beginning.

Bringing home a puppy is one of the most exciting—and heartwarming—adventures you’ll ever take. Whether you’re a seasoned dog lover or a first-time puppy parent, this guide is here to help make the transition smooth, joyful, and stress-free.

We’ve put together a collection of resources that our families have consistently found helpful, and we strongly encourage you to read through everything before your puppy comes home—especially if you’re new to dog ownership.

Some of the helpful topics you’ll find inside include:

• ๐Ÿ›๏ธ A go-to shopping list (with just one must-have: food!)

https://www.beltzhiddenviewdoodles.com/go-home-shopping-list

• ๐Ÿฅฉ Guidance on puppy nutrition and choosing the right food (see shopping list)

• ๐Ÿ’ค Our best tips for crate training

• ๐Ÿšฝ Tried-and-true potty training strategies

• โค๏ธ Plus a few bonus insights to help you build confidence and connection right from the start

We want you to feel prepared, empowered, and excited—not overwhelmed. So take your time, dive in, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. Your puppy’s journey begins here!

Nutrition

At Beltz's Hidden View Doodles, we believe there is no such thing as too chubby of a puppy! We feed our pups Purina ProPlan for Puppy three times a day. Most Doodles will always be sensible eaters, stopping when they’ve had the right amount.

Potty Training Tips

Potty Training Tips for Your New Pup ๐Ÿพ

Your sweet little one has been doing excellent with potty training here at our home—we’re so proud of their process! ๐Ÿฅน But just like humans in a new place, puppies need a little time to learn where their new “bathroom” is. The key? Consistency and patience.

Here are some helpful (and creative!) potty training ideas to help him/her transition smoothly:

โœจ Use the Same Door Every Time – Just like here, carry or walk them out the same door until she connects that door with potty time.

โฐ Set a Timer for Every 2 Hours – Puppies have tiny bladders! Regular outings prevent accidents and build the habit.

๐ŸŒฟ Potty Spot Magic – Pick a specific spot in the yard. Let them sniff it before potty time so they associate that area with doing her business. Some folks even leave a tissue with their scent to “mark” it early on!

๐ŸŽ‰ Praise Party – Act like they just won the lottery when they go outside treats, excited praise, or even a goofy potty dance work wonders.

๐Ÿšช “Let’s Go Potty” Cue – Use the same phrase each time so they link the words with the action. Eventually, they’ll go on command like a pro.

๐Ÿงผ No-Scent Cleanup Inside – If accidents happen (they will!), use an enzyme cleaner to remove any lingering smell so they're not tempted to reuse the spot.

๐Ÿถ Keep Track – Jot down when they eat, drink, nap, and potties for a few days. Patterns will appear, making it easier to predict when they'll need to go.

๐Ÿ’ก Bells by the Door – Some puppies love this trick! Hang a bell on the doorknob and gently guide their paws to tap it before going out. With time, they'll ring it themselves when they need to go.

You’ve got this—and so will they. Consistency and Patience is KEY.๐Ÿ’•

BEHIND THE LENS

๐Ÿพ Unique & Creative Crate Training Tips

 “Crate = Magic Treat Dispenser”

Hide a special chew, frozen Kong, or puzzle toy in the crate that only appears during crate time. This helps the crate become a place of excitement and reward, not confinement.

“Name That Crate!”

Give the crate a fun name like “The Den,” “Puppy Pad,” or “Snuggle Station.” Using consistent and playful language helps puppies associate it with comfort—and helps families remember to stay positive!

 “Lights, Lullabies, and Lavender”

Try adding a calming element during downtime: a dim nightlight, soothing classical or heartbeat sounds, and a spritz of dog-safe lavender spray on the bedding. Create a spa-vibe sanctuary for your pup.

 “Crate Parties!” (2-Minute Training Games)

During the day, toss a treat into the crate and say “go to your crate!” in a happy tone—then let them come right back out. Repeat a few times a day to reinforce that the crate isn’t a trap, it’s just part of the fun.

 “Room with a View”

Place the crate in a cozy corner—but let the puppy see some household action. They’re more likely to settle when they don’t feel isolated. (Bonus: drape a blanket over one side to create a comfy “cave” feel while keeping one side open.)

 “Rotating Crate Decor”

Change up crate bedding or add a soft shirt that smells like the owner. Familiar scents are incredibly comforting to young puppies, especially at night.

 “Crate Mealtime Routine”

Feed meals inside the crate with the door open. This helps build strong positive associations with the crate—and adds structure to feeding time.

“The ‘Crate & Carry’ Trick”

When first starting out, gently carry your puppy to the crate while calmly saying “crate time.” It helps avoid chasing or resistance—and builds a predictable, loving rhythm.

“Crate-Side Reading Time”

Sit next to the crate and read out loud in a calm, soothing tone (especially helpful for kids!). Your pup learns that their crate is a safe spot even when you’re not actively engaging with them.

“The Tired Pup Rule”

Only crate when your puppy is tired, not hyper. After playtime, a short potty break, and a few minutes of calm affection, pop them in the crate. They’ll be more likely to settle and snooze rather than protest

How do I book a session?

Booking is easy! Simply contact us through our website, email, or phone to discuss availability and details. A deposit may be required to secure your date.

What should I wear for my photoshoot?

Wear outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. Solid colors, minimal patterns, and coordinating (but not matching) outfits work best for group photos. We’re happy to provide styling tips!

How long does a photoshoot take?

Session lengths vary depending on the type of shoot. Portrait sessions typically last 45 minutes to an hour, while more extensive sessions, like weddings, can take several hours.

When will I receive my photos?

Editing takes time to ensure the best quality. Most sessions are delivered within 2-3 weeks, while larger events like weddings may take up to 6 weeks. Rush processing may be available upon request.

Do you offer prints or just digital images?

We offer both! You can choose high-resolution digital files, professional prints, albums, and wall art to showcase your memories beautifully.

What happens if the weather is bad for an outdoor session?

If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we can reschedule for another day or move the session to an indoor location. We’ll stay in touch and make the best decision together.
